Thanks for the Laughs

What a great meeting we had tonight. Thanks for the great discussion and laughs. I'm glad I have your friendships to help push me along in this thing called life.

Aleisha, thank you so much for bringing Sunshine to our meeting. Welcome Sunshine. I am so excited to have you in our club! You are so cute and bring great insights and energy to our group.
A reminder- please invite anyone you know who would love to be in our club. I promise a better prize next time. (Sorry Lou!)

Jill- Thanks for hosting. Your place is cute and cozy. I think you are Lily's new best friend! Thanks Rachael for the great discussion questions and hand outs.

The book for our next meeting is called: The Cold Sassy Tree by Olive Ann Burns.
We will be meeting the last week in January; exact date to be announced at a later time.
Aleisha is hosting and will send out an email reminder about a week before our next meeting. We also decided that one email reminder will be sent before each meeting by the person hosting the current meeting. That way we'll all remember to check the blog for updates, etc.

Okay I think that's it. Look in your email for a current list of books and contact info for each group member. I've also updated the side column to reflect some of the books we talked about adding to our list.

Aleisha, if you could please email me Sunshine's informationt to my work email I'll get her added to the list. Thanks!!

Loving this Group

Hey Girls,
Thanks to all who came out to our last meeting. It was a blast and we had a great discussion. Thanks Aleisha!!

Our next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, December 2nd at Jill Farnsworth's house in West Jordan. Holly and Aleisha are in charge of providing some sort of hot eats or cool treats. Rachael is going to be the discussion leader and the book is still up in the air. I have posted a list of books we discussed at the meeting. If anyone has any to add, please do. We should have the book finalized in a couple of weeks. Rachael, please keep us posted on this.

Please bring anyone you think might be interested in joining our club. Prizes will be awarded!! I hope everyone can come to the next meeting, as it will be our last for the year.

P.S. The Secret Life of Bees (the movie) will be coming out soon, if not already. If anyone wants to meet up and go, we totally should.

Discussion Questions!

Hey! I just noticed there are discussion questions in the back of the book. For those of you who have discussion questions in the backs of your books, read through them and see if there are any you'd like to talk about. (Not sure if all books have the questions...if you don't have discussion questions in your book, post (or email me) some topics or ideas that you're interested in.) If you see a question you'd like to answer, or would like us to talk about, let me know! Post them or email them to me by midnight, October 20th!! THANKS!!!

Hello Burton Babes!

(By the way, I vote for "Burton Babes" for the name of our book club. Hee hee. I think it's perfect! Gotta love Lavar Burton!) Hi! Hope everyone is well and eating as much Halloween candy as I am!

Anyway, I just wanted to let all the members know that I am open for suggestions regarding the discussion questions for "Snowflower." I want to talk about what YOU want to talk about. What would you like to discuss? Please email me or post questions on the blog, or email/post topics or themes you'd like to discuss. You have until the 2oth to send or post ideas and questions. (We're meeting the 22nd, so I put the 20th as the cut-off. This gives me a couple of days to compile some handouts for you guys!) What does everyone think? Would that be okay?! I'd appreciate the input!

Happy reading and Happy Fall!

October Meeting

Hi Everyone,
Sorry it took me so long to get this on here. Our next meeting will be October 22nd (that's a Wednesday night) at Holly's house at 6:30pm. So far, that I know of, those coming are Me, Holly, Aleisha, Rachael, Melissa, and possibly Jessie (she will be in town so we're trying to work out the details to see if she can come). I also met up with a friend from H.S., Jill, and she's interested in joining so she's going to come and she's bringing a friend. So I'm pretty excited about that.

I am bringing Chinese food for dinner, to go along with our theme for this months meeting. If everyone could please bring $3-$4 to chip in that would be great. I was planning on getting some egg rolls, maybe some fried wontons, white rice, pon pon chicken, maybe some noodles and another main dish with veggies and meat. Any suggestions? Or if there's something you don't like please let me know. You can post here or email me at work. Either way is fine.

Okay guys, I think that's it. We've all been to Holly's. If anyone needs directions or what not just let us know. I'm really excited about this meeting. I have lots of great ideas for spicing up our meetings so come ready to discuss and put in your two-cents!

P.S. Feel free to add yourselves as an author. If anyone needs help you can have Holly show you how at the meeting. Thanks!

Because I still don't know where the library is ...

That's not entirely true. I have driven by it during a bus tour of the city. I don't think I could find it on my own.

Anyhow, if you click here you can read most (if not all) of this month's book. But don't take my word for it.

Help

So I posted on how to add me as an author but I think I figured it out. Still, I need someone to check my work and make sure I did this right. I'm such a nerd. It's pathetic!! Hee hee. I'm proud you guys are posting and commenting. It makes me happy to know that you are at least still interested in Book Club.

Just a quick update. Haven't had too many responses for meeting in September so Holly, Aleisha and I decided we'll just meet in October. Any weekend would work except for the 1st weekend (conference) and the last weekend in Oct. We can also meet on a week night if you'd like. SO let's blog among ourselves and if you can't come that's fine. But we are having a meeting in October cuz we haven't met since June cuz our club fire is dim.

Thanks Friends!!

P.S. I love the look of this blog. WAY more then my own. How sad. I'd better fix that. :)

Reading Rainbow....Way Cooler!

Okay, cool. This is going to be fun. I like that we can all be authors. It will make sharing easier. My link also links to my blog, so you are all welcome to check it out if you'd like.

I was talking to Cami about the name of the book club, and she suggested Reading Rainbow Just Got Cooler. I kind of shot her down. Sorry Cam! I acutally LOVE it as the name of the blog. It fits great! :)

I haven't read the book yet but I'll get there. I'm actually reading another one of her books right now because I couldn't get the Snow Flower one at the library. It's called "Peony In Love". I'll let you know. It's just okay so far, but I'm only into it about 4 chapters.

Give It a Try

So I just logged into the blog using the info Cami sent, then signed myself up as an author. Just wanted to test and see if this post will work with me as the author...and it does. I just checked. Sweet!

Hopefully everyone gets a chance to logon and we can really start using this blog. Think it's a fabulous idea! Thanks Cami.

Put It to a Vote

Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to pose a question. Should we make this blog public or private? Do you want other people not in the book club to be able to view it?

Let's chat.

Christening

Hey Girls,
This is the first of many posts I hope to see on this blog. I thought it would be fun to have a place where everyone can post comments on the book, either periodically while you are reading during the 2 months between meetings, or if you can't make it to a meeting you can still posted your thoughts and we can discuss them at the meeting.

I was thinking I'll start putting updates on the meetings and what not on this blog instead of emailing everyone; make it a little more interactive.

I hope you all like this and use it. We'll work the kinks out at our upcoming meeting. I have lots of ideas for things we can do to make book club more exciting and fun.

See ya soon and happy reading!
Your fearless leader.
